On this unique concept album, Annette
Funicello teams up with folk group The Wellingtons and The
All-American Chorus to bring you college cheers from campuses
around the US.
Although Annette is mainly
talk-cheering on this album, while the guys take on the vocal
arrangements, she does break into song on
four tracks; #6 Yale Boola, #19 Come Join The
Band, #20 Ramblin' Wreck From Georgia Tech and #24 The
Eyes Of Texas.
The Wellingtons cover five songs on
their own and Annette joins them on one, rounding out the college alma maters cheers on this album to twenty-four.
Although
the vinyl has visible tracks, most of the songs run into each
other as a continuous round of cheering. The
album was released in both mono (#BV-3320) and stereo ( #STER-3320.) Both issues have identical covers with
different backs that are cropped slightly upwards or downwards
to reveal the appropriate mono or stereo notation. There are also at
least two variations for the inner gatefold pages. One
shows a wide photo of Annette on campus on the first page and another
shows a cropped of photo Annette with the insertion of a photo
of The Wellingtons to the right. Matrix

Mouseketeers on the Disney television show The Mickey
Mouse Club, that first aired in October of 1955.
In
1958, she starred in her own serial, Annette, that
ran for a total of 19 episodes as part of final season of The Mickey Mouse
Club. In the show, Annette played a
young farm girl transitioning to an upper-class neighborhood.

Notes: The
Wellingtons started out in 1962 under the name of The Lincolns, an American
pop folk group from Champaign, Illinois. They were discovered by veteran
Disney songwriter Terry Gilkyson, while they were all attending the same
fraternity. The quartet later changed their name to The Wellingtons for
the remainder of their musical career. The group includes
singer-instrumentalist George Patterson, Ed Wade,
Kirby Johnson and Rick Jarrard.
Although The
Wellingtons have an impressive catalog with the Disney Company, they are
best known for recording a non-Disney theme song for the first season of
Gilligan's Island.
For Disney, they can be heard in multi-part harmonies on classics theme
songs
from The Wonderful World of Color, Davy Crockett, Savage
Sam, Thomasina and others. They also covered Kirk
Douglas' memorable song, A Whale Of A Tale, from 20,000 Leagues Under The
Sea.
