Record
Comments: The release of this
record coincided with the 1955 introduction of The
Mickey Mouse Club. The artwork and title of the
record are the same as a later 1962 issue on catalog #DQ-1227.
However, only 12 tracks were re-used for the DQ-1227 issue. They include tracks
1, 2, 5, 9, 14, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 and 26 (with the exception
of the original Mouseketeers' March beginning on track 26 that
was exclusive to the 1955 issue.)
The artists on this
record include The Mouseketeers, Jimmie Dodd, Cliff Edwards as
Jiminy Cricket, Ruth Carrell, Thurl Ravenscroft, The Mellomen and The Mickey Mouse Club Chorus.
There
are few notable tracks on this release that include Thurl
Ravenscroft's first solo outside of the Mellomen on The
British Grenadier and The Pencil Song that
Jimmie Dodd was hired to write for an episode of Disneyland.
That song ultimately landed Jimmie Dodd a permanent
home in the studio's music department, after department head,
Jimmy Johnson, heard his demo.

Notes: The Mickey Mouse
Club is
a children's television variety show that includes live-action
performances, exclusive serials and animated segments that were promoted
as Mousekatoon Time. The show was part of a deal with
ABC that help fund the building of the Disneyland Theme Park, in Anaheim
California. The
show premiered in October of 1955 and ran for three seasons, starting
out in an hour-long format and later shortened to 30 minutes. The
programs include a cast of children, known as The Mouseketeers, led by adults Jimmie Dodd and Roy Williams. In
all, 260 one-hour episodes and 130 half-hour episodes were produced. The
original show found new life in syndication in 1975. The success
of the reruns led to the creation of The New
Mickey Mouse Club in 1977 with new episodes and a new cast.
The original series was also revived in 1983,
finding a new home on the Disney Channel. Those airings paved way
for another new cast and episodes starting in
1989 under the title
of MMC.
